The ancient Japanese art of paper cutting is called Kirie or 'paper cutting'. Consider Dwell Bedding for your Next Bedroom Makeover!
Dwell Studios was founded in 1999 in an effort to introduce modern textile design into home decorating. Dwell Home Furnishings is a division that creates bedding for adults, infants and children that are modern in design and classic in style at the same time. The company has already staked its claim as one of the best with its eye for unique color combination and layouts. The sheets that are offered by Dwell are woven from 100% Egyptian cotton. One of the features that most makes Dwell so original is the fact that the bedding is reactive printed to keep its saturated color that the company's bedding is famous for. Need a tip on how to get wrinkle free Dwell sheets after laundering them? Dwell recommends that you take the bedding out of your dryer when it is just slightly damp, and place them on the bed to finish.
The designs of Dwell are sophisticated variants of classic motifs, using floral mixes, stripes and strong solids. These are not your grandma's patterns, though. The patterns are very large and distinct. Instead of a spread decorated with thousands of tiny flowers, there might be a single, super-sized white daisy on a brown-colored spread instead. Using flowers for bedding is not new; Dwell using one giant flower for bedding is!
There are plenty of adorable and soothing bedding products for infants and children from Dwell too. Crib sets include reversible play blankets, linen bumpers, cotton percale fitted sheets and sateen crib skirts. For older children, Dwell offers cotton percale duvet covers and pillow shams. Sound like something you'd be interested in? We thought so!
Another unique feature of this promo bedding is that it is all designed to coordinate beautifully with pieces from Dwell's other collections. Mixing and matching is what Dwell is all about. For example, duvet sets are made to work perfectly with their Trim Sheets and their Quilted Collections. The company prides itself too on making bedding that is easy to clean that launders beautifully. No matter your taste or your budget, Dwell makes something for everyone, so if you are dying to remodel your bedroom, give Dwell a try!

Socially Responsible Design, Singgih Kartono Magno Radio
Sure we love the simplistic retro modern design of the Magno Radio, but it's the craftsmanship and commitment to social responsibility that really impresses us! Singgih Kartono's Magno Radio, revitalizes craft industries in Indonesian villages, by creating jobs for local people. By creating jobs, Magno, provides them the opportunity to better their community and thus, improve their own quality of life. Kartono says, "During my final years at university, I was troubled by a very big question: Where should I go and what should I do after I graduate? Should I work as an in-house designer, for a design office, somewhere in the city or should I go back to my village Kandangan in Central Java And set up a business?"Singgih chose to return to his village and create a new industry more suitable to his village's way of life, manufacturing handcrafted design products.
"Craft is an alternative economic activity that has the potential to be developed and to grow in villages. It has characteristics that are suitable for villages' living conditions and growth prospects."Singgih's dedication to revitalizing his community also applies to the materials he uses to create his products. Feng Shui Tips for the Bedroom: Do's and Dont's
Now that you have had a chance to make sure your bed is Feng Shui compatible, it's time to find a place to put it. Normally, you'd place the bed wherever you felt comfortable, but in Feng Shui bed positioning is very important. Here are a few tips on positioning your bed:- Never place your bed under a window. According to Feng Shui principles, this will make you feel tired upon rising. It will also allow chi to escape from the room.
- Make sure there is a clear path from the window to the door. The chi must flow through the room uninterrupted. If your bed blocks this flow, experts believe it will disrupt your sleep.
- The bed should always face the door of the room, but never directly in front of it. This is called the Command Position and offers you a sense of security because you can see who is coming in and out of the room.
- You should be very aware of windows and doors when placing your bed. You don't want to block the path of chi moving from a window to the door.
- Make sure the bed can be approached from either side. This provides balance and synergy to the room and hopefully, to your life!
Now that your bed is in it's best position, let's discuss what items you should and should not have in your bedroom for proper Feng Shui.
- Keep computers, TVs, and exercise equipment out of the bedroom. It's hard to let go of late night television, we know, but having these items in your bedroom creates harmful energy and is best left for other rooms.
- Balance is a very important for good Feng Shui in the bedroom. Not only should your bed be approachable from both sides but you should also place matching nightstands on each side of the bed. They should also have rounded corners to prevent 'cutting chi' or bad energy from reaching you while you sleep.
- Never place a large mirror in front of your bed! This is a big no-no in Feng Shui for the bedroom. Having a mirror in front of your bed can redirect harmful chi back at you. Keep mirrors away from the bed.

Easy Feng Shui tips for the Bedroom: The Bed
Have you ever walked into a room and it just didn't feel right? Practitioners of Feng Shui believe it's because the 'Chi' or the universal energy is not flowing properly through a room. Feng Shui techniques remove, rearrange or add elements to a space to improve the flow or 'chi' of the room. Recently we did some rearranging in our own bedroom and it really seemed to help so we thought we would share with our readers, a few simple tips they can use to improve their own bedrooms. First, we'll start with the most important piece of furniture in the bedroom-The Bed. Apply some of these tips to your bedroom and see if it makes a difference. Does Feng Shui really work? We'll let you be the judge. But hey, it doesn't hurt to try!The Bed
1. Headboard: A good headboard provides support and protection while your body is refueling it's own energy while you sleep. A headboard should be wood or upholstered, but most important is it be sturdy.
2. Foundation/Frames: Energy should flow effortlessly all around and underneath your bed. Beds with built in storage, disrupt the flow of chi. Removing items from underneath the bed can help circulate the energy in the room. Foundations and bed frames, should be sturdy and level. The idea is to provide a solid even base to support your body while it re-energizes.
3. Mattress: A good mattress provides a comfortable platform on which to rest and is vital to sustaining good back health. Choose a mattress that best suits your physical needs, while keeping in mind the type of materials used in making the mattress. One option is the Soy Green mattress from Magniflex. It's made with an aloe vera base and has soy inter-weaved into the fabric. A natural choice is always best. You also want your mattress to brand new. Never purchase a used mattress! We think this goes without saying, but used mattresses also come with whatever bad energy the previous owners left behind. Plus, it's just gross!
These are just a few helpful tips to restore chi to your bedroom. In our next post, we'll focus on the importance of bed placement and essential furniture for good Feng Shui in the bedroom.

Aquaovo Ovopur Filtration System is a Eco-Friendly Alternative to Bottled Water
Who doesn't enjoy the taste of a nice bottle of cold filtered water on a hot summer day? We certainly do. Americans buy an estimated 29.8 billion bottles of water per year. That's a lot of H2O! Unfortunately, all those bottles amount to a gigantic eco-nightmare, because eight out of ten water bottles will end up in a landfill. The Aquaovo Ovopur Filtration System gets rid of the bottle all together, by providing you with a natural water filtering alternative. Ovopur's award winning design utilizes an offline gravitational filter with multi layers that remove 99% of water born pollutants. It's made of chemical free porcelain and lead free glazing, so you can be sure you're drinking only clean water and not swallowing harmful chemicals. It's attractive egg shaped design helps to circulate the water, regenerating it, so your water doesn't become stagnant. This helps to reduce bacteria build up, which you often see in other types of filtration systems. And you won't be changing filters every month! Ovopur's filter lasts 4 months and is recyclable. Place the Ovopur on the counter, fill it with water and forget about it. The magnetic marker on the side of the unit indicates when the water level is low so you can refill it. Best Tips for Spring Cleaning

It's that time of year again when the snow disappears and warm weather takes over. Spring cleaning is a ritual for many people who are tired of feeling cooped up in their house who are ready for a fresh, clean feel to match the fresh and clean air that spring brings. However, everyone knows that after a long winter with months of having the house closed up, it can be an overwhelming task trying to get the house clean. It is time to remove the clutter- but although we are excited about spring, we dread the thought of starting such a major project. Here are some tips to making your spring cleaning easier and faster than ever.
It is a good idea to start with a schedule- break up the tasks over several days if you have to- no one said that spring cleaning had to be done all in one day! Instead of spending an entire day of your life cleaning the basement, break it up into an hour each day. You have to have a plan, and follow it. Many of us find that there is so much to do with our homes that we go from room to room to room in a very unorganized way, picking up here and there as we go. Have you ever cleaned in a scattered way and after an entire day of back breaking work you found your house didn't look much different? Focus on one room at a time- you can start with the room that you spend the most time in so that you can finish it and be inspired and motivated to work on other rooms.
Part of your plan needs to be a list of cleaning supplies that you will need. Gather them together in one closet or one area so that you have everything ready. It will be detrimental to your plan if you have to stop every so often and run to the store to buy a cleaning supply that you do not have. Also, don't think that you have to do all of the cleaning by yourself! Get your spouse, partner or kids to help you out, even if it is just for a little bit each day. One of the best ways to get a good grip on the spring cleaning is to have you start in the common areas of the home and have your kids clean their own rooms. Chances are good that you will have to go in the room and clean after them, but at least garbage will be collected and thrown out, toys will be put in the general correct area and laundry will be tossed into baskets.
A good tip that I have found really helpful is to clean as if you were moving out: we have all seen that when people are moving out they do a pretty good job discarding items that they really do not need that they would rather donate or get rid of instead of moving it. Fight the urge to be a pack rat- ask yourself, if you were moving, would you take it with your or get rid of it?

Current Trends in Modern Bedroom Furniture

The current trends in modern bedroom furniture for the last few years have centered on simple, clean lines and curves and sharp cornered geometric shapes. Square shaped platform beds and crescent shaped nightstands are big sellers, as are simple little wall art hangings and accessories carefully dotted throughout the room. Although many people still insist on using night tables, with platform beds they are usually phased out and instead are extensions of the modern platform beds. Some of the platforms extend past the actual mattress and others do not, giving a more modest look to modern bedrooms. In some designs, modern platform bed feet are usually located close to the center of the platform, which seems to give the appearance of the head board and foot board along with the curved shape of the platform having a sophisticated, trendy aura.
With current trends in modern bedroom furniture today, most of the materials that are commonly used are plywood panels and solid timber in warm cherrywood and the very popular wenge finish, depending on the particular style that you are interested in for the room. Although for the last few years the desired look has been clean, crisp and sharp lines, it seems that this year curve is the buzz word. Curved wood panels are commonly used in modern bedrooms, giving them a unique and trendy chic look. A curved dresser, bureau or chest can not only be practical but can also add a unique and fresh flair to an otherwise simplistic room. Although current trends call for simple lines, as always, a room that does not have enough accessories in it just looks bare and unfinished.
One of the newest trends we have seen this season is a white decape finish with furniture, and the use of mirrors and glass can accentuate major colors of any modern bedroom furniture in a room. Mirrors and glass commonly cover the top of the dressers and night stands and are also used these days as a modern trendy finish to wardrobe doors. Everything from one piece lacquered pieces to patterned, all kinds of colors, shades, and sizes are popular this season including smoked, satined, bronzed and white, as previously had been mentioned. Smoke pattern mirrors can create a unique look especially when it is paired with wenge color for the furniture. Bronzed mirrors and glass are commonly paired with country style cherry wood. Finally, one of the current hot trends in modern bedroom furniture is to use break glass in a bronze color.

Modern and Classic Kids Bedding
Whether you are interested in one of the many classic designs like animals, transportation or princesses or you are searching for modern looks like geometric shapes and solid stripes, you may want to begin your search on the Internet. There are some very informative online resources that can be of great help to you when trying to coordinate color schemes and designs for your little one. Once you have an idea in mind about colors, characters or shapes, you can then start to narrow down which stores or websites have sets that fit your ideal criteria. You might have a store in mind already that you enjoy shopping at that you might want to try. If you are interested in going to auction websites like eBay, you can start there and see what you find.
Just be sure that you are as specific as possible when you are entering your search terms into a search engine or a website. This way you won't waste a lot of time trying to weed through too many kids bedding products that only somewhat meet your criteria. You might be interested in very particular features for the products, such as blue cotton airplane sheets or organic pink princess patterns.
Speaking of organic items, if your little one has a tendency to suffer from allergies or skin irritations you may want to consider purchasing kids bedding that is certified organic. Be careful though, because just because a label has the words organic or natural on it does not mean that it was grown and processed without toxins and chemicals, so you must make sure that your organic kids bedding has a tag or certificate on it that states that it is certified organic and absolutely free of any dangerous toxins and chemicals.

Today's Crib Bedding Trends

Crib bedding sets need to be soft, comfortable, stain resistant and above all safe so that parents won't have to worry every time they lay their infants down at night. There are so many different designs, styles and flairs that sets have, from fish and safari animals to modern contemporary designs and geometric shapes that you will have a good time trying to choose the one crib bedding set that will suit your child well.
Most of the sets that are out on the market today are 4 piece sets that include a comforter, a fitted sheet, the bumpers and a dust ruffle. These 4 piece crib bedding sets are available in many popular infant and toddler colors, themes and motifs. There are also some sets that include more than four pieces- some might include everything from a changing table cover or a small table lamp to diaper stackers, window treatments and mobiles. Most people prefer to follow not only the same theme for their nursery but they will want to stay with the same sets of crib bedding items in the exact design from the same manufacturer.
One of the current fashion trends today is baby clothing and supplies that are organic. Cotton is the natural fiber that is most often used for organic products, and those that are certified organic are the products that were made without harmful chemicals or toxins in them. There can be no harmful synthetic chemicals used during the planting, growing, harvesting, manufacturing or processing of the fibers that are used. This natural way of processing clothing is better not only for the farmers who grow those crops, but also is healthier and safer for the people who manufacture the clothing, in addition to the children who wear them.
It seems these days that modern crib bedding is either bold in color or neutral in color, one or the other. Earth tones that are nice, light and easy on the eyes are common, but so are the bright, vivid, bold solid colors like deep red and sea blue. Although small patterns had been popular for decades in the past, the modern look today for crib bedding is large, simple geometric shapes or stripes or large prints. The tiny, flowery prints are out for the time being as far as current trends are concerned. If you are undecided about what is trendy for the year in crib bedding styles, you only need to go as far as the Internet for thousands of pictures of some of the current best sellers.

New Modern Pillows and Throws from Bholu at Bobby Berk Home

Bholu is the work of Australian designer Jodie Fried.
The Bholu philosophy is about creating beautiful products that we love and live with, while benefiting communities we work with along the way.
Bholu products are brought to life by traditional artisans from rural and urban communities in India. Each piece is individually hand embroidered or handwoven using ancient techniques, giving each product its own unique and original personality. By using their traditional skills, the artisans gain an income, hence independence and opportunity as well as keeping a traditional craft alive.

With designs that are bold and free, it is Bholu’s childlike simplicity that gave the label its intriguing name – a Katchchhi word, describing a term of endearment and also the naivety and free expression of a small child.
Part proceeds from the collection go back to the Bholu Anganwadi Project which has now built a total of 8 pre schools with Architects Without Frontiers Australia, in underprivileged communities and have several more under construction, which provides over 280 poor children with love, education and a nutritious meal.

Bobby Berk’s Favorites for Winter Bedding

Home Decor: As the days grow shorter and the temperature drops for those of us in snow country, I look to anything I can to warm it up inside until the planet tilts back to longer days and warmer nights.
Spoil yourself with bedding - its a great way to take the chill off winter nights - whether by myself or with someone special. I like bedding that seduces me - rich palettes, sumptuous layers, and smooth, inviting touches.
Bedding maker Matteo brings us something special this season, their new line DUE. Meaning two in Italian, Matteo’s DESIGN UNDER CONSTRUCTION line uses great italian fabrics with unexpected stitching, reinterpreted ticking and fantastic washes that make their sheets, duvet covers, pillow cases and throws soft to the touch but sturdy enough to make me want to stay in bed all day!!
For me winter is all about nesting. This is the time of year I’ll spend most at home, and most between the sheets! My bedroom is my sanctuary, where I go to rest, to recharge, and to give myself those stolen moments before I face the world. What better place to really spoil myself? Indulge with me - in colors like Night, Ash, Pewter and my favorite, Fig. These dark greys and browns are sophisticated and chic, perfect to underlay accent pillows in bold jewel colors and fiery oranges and reds, or even metallics for a sharper look. Regardless of how you accent them, these dark and delicious hues are subtle yet stunning.
What I love about bedding for winter is that I use layers on my bed just like I use layers in my wardrobe. DUE’s best dressed bed is the WASHED SATEEN for sheets and pillowcases. Of the collections in the line, look to Americana for great quilts, Fireside for a throw that beats any scarf your closet has to offer, and Thermal for those in-between layers. Building from the mattress up, I like a sheet, duvet, quilt and a throw. I build my nest from the bottom up, and I use it as my safe haven in the storm of urban life that I love so much. Engulfed in the toss of fabrics, I have three different kinds of pillows to create different sensations of softness, support and embrace. Three different sizes, encased in DUE’s subtle prints and strong patterns from the Pinwheel, Botanica and Nova collections.
So this winter cozy up in the bedroom where it all starts and ends - the BED! Great bed linens will make both your day and your dreams better. Wake up to warmth, come home to the crush of inviting texture and dive in, to awaken tomorrow recharged and ready to hit it again!
And if your nest is for two, all the better. You’ll keep your bedmate in bed longer and happier with a bed dressed for two! Do it up, do it right, and allow yourselves to linger

LivingHomes Announces National Availability of Ray Kappe’s Green Prefab

Fabulous prefab design just became more accessible as LivingHomes has announced that homes by award-winning architect Ray Kappe will be available at lower cost on a national scale. The six Kappe designs now available nationwide come chock-full of all the green features that LivingHomes are known for, delivering high quality design in a sustainable package.

Modern Baby Bedding for Pizazz
The really successful modern baby bedding designers are coming up with contemporary designs that are actually not necessarily new but are re-designs of the past. Contemporary looks actually are revamps of retro designs, and although there may be some variation and updating of colors that are used, for the most part the core of the retro look remains unchanged. Bold colors and smooth clean lines are characteristic of both the retro style and ironically the modern styles. This type of design flows from everything from sofas and end tables to baby bedding, and the true measure of a great design today is when kids love them and adults really do enjoy them, too.
In addition to the bedding, parents today are searching for the furniture that will show it all off: cribs with straight, smooth slats as opposed to the more decorative spindle cribs, changing tables combined with armoires instead of the traditional shelf tables and more. Products that appeal to young minds and eyes while fitting with the overall beauty of a nursery is essential, and with a little bit of digging you will be able to find everything you're looking for and more on the Internet.
Overall, parents and caregivers want a nursery with decor that is as beautiful, special and original as their new child is, and from linens to toys to furniture, many are not fine with the thought of settling for second best or generic. Look for sturdy construction, good high quality materials and attractive designs when you are looking for anything for the nursery. Some of the best designers only have their designs put on products that are very high quality, and most of the most popular looks are simple geometric shapes, thick stripes of bold colors, solid colors and light patterns that do not have an overabundance of detail. If you are searching for the best in modern baby bedding, your best place to start may be looking to the past.
The Best Contemporary Furniture
You will want to be careful with this decision because choosing the cheaper things right off the bat can seem like you are getting a good deal and saving money, when in fact in the long run you may end up spending a lot more money. Using pieces that are constructed of cheaper materials often will break sooner and worse than sturdy, strong materials, and these pieces of course would have to be replaced. Weigh your options with your budget to get the best products made of the best materials that still are within your budget.
There are also different fabrics that are used for different grades of furnishings, ranging from steel, cashmere, Italian leather and others like polyester and cotton. There are also many others, some new and some traditional, that appeal to a lot of people today like synthetic leather and microfiber. All of the materials of course have different excellent properties and also some drawbacks. There are also many items today that have new twists on old materials to them, such as tempered safety glass and flame resistant fibers. Although sometimes these materials make contemporary furniture slightly more expensive sometimes but those who pay for it agree that the cost is well worth it. For example, shoppers who have young children often are more than willing to pay extra for safety glass as opposed to thin, breakable glass.
In the past, safety was often compromised and sacrificed for style, but these days furniture shoppers don't have to make a decision; they can have both while still staying within your alotted budget when you are shopping for contemporary furniture.

Shopping at the Best Modern Furniture Store
Luckily, many businesses out there have been in business for years, some of them have even been around for decades. Even before the introduction of the Internet, there have been plenty of specialty shops that had exotic pieces hidden in their showrooms, tucked away waiting for the right buyer to come along. This aspect hasn't really changed much, but what has changed is the medium that people use to find those great pieces. People now shop at modern furniture stores that are located across the country, day or night, anytime without even having to leave their own house. It is for this very reason that the best modern furniture store of course is the Internet itself. How do consumers get the most benefit from shopping? What things in an online retailer should they look for? How do they know they are getting the best products for the best prices?
Many of the most popular and most visited websites are those that carry the work of top designers, and others are those that work with manufacturers both local and global. The most posh distributor websites will feature the works of German, Spanish, Italian and American craftsmen and will back up their pieces with excellent guarantees and service for their customers, too.
Websites of the companies that offer a huge variety of living room furniture should have several models on display online of sofas, chaises, loveseats, daybeds, lounge chairs, entertainment centers, lamps, tables and more that are appreciated by even the most discerning shoppers. They also should probably have a large inventory of piece for the dining room, since that is one of the main rooms of the house as well. Dining sets, tables and chairs of all kinds, shapes, materials and styles, buffets and sideboards and hutches are just some of the pieces that they should certainly carry several models of to show their customers. These shops and websites should also have tons of different bedroom sets for you to look at too, in case the bedrooms are rooms that you want to include in your house overhaul. Just be sure that no matter which rooms you want to redecorate that you take your time looking through the inventories of plenty of modern furniture stores online.
